"This style of purse/bag is an older shape which comes from the tipi bags, once used by the plains people. On this piece i used my favorite sky blue as a background color...i tend to use that color alot...and it pays honor to my Arapaho people as we are known as the "Blue sky people" The designs are an old geometric designs which depict an hourglass shape or a tipi which is a mirror image(the top tipi reflecting the bottom tipi) then borded by a geometrical mountain design. The front designs depict mountains done in both beadwork and brass sequins. This is all beaded using size 13 czech cut beads, brass sequins beaded on braintanned deerhide. Then decorating with the horsehair dangles and the zig zag drops ornament the purse as the cherry on top! I bead in both contemporary and old style manners, and this piece is done in more of an old style to honor the past. By using the best materials a beadworker can have, i created this piece." - Ken Williams |
